My guest for this episode is Caitlin Kerk. Caitlin is a writer and communications strategist who has been writing about health and social issues for more than 25 years. In that time, she has developed communications plans and messaging platforms, conducted media campaigns, and created content for a wide range of communication vehicles, including promotional materials, websites, blogs, public health reports and white papers.

Caitlin launched Kerk Communications in 1997 to provide nonprofit agencies and other public benefit organizations with quality marketing communication services at competitive prices. Before that, she headed communications for the statewide American Lung Association, handled nonprofit and government accounts at Coakley Heagerty Public Relations firm, and worked as a daily newspaper reporter. She graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a minor in Political Science.

Caitlin and I discuss communication planning and why and how it’s relevant to nonprofit leaders. Caitlin explains how the plan is your roadmap for connecting to key stakeholders, including donors.
