My guest today is Janet Cohen. Jan has been a consultant and trainer who has worked with more than 250 nonprofit organizations over more than 20 years. Her focus is on customized services for nonprofits throughout the country for diversification of revenue, earned income, marketing planning, and strategic planning processes. She also serves in Interim Executive positions, especially those with an earned income focus.

Jan partners with Academies for Social Entrepreneurship as the Lead Social Enterprise Trainer & Coach and has worked with over 75 participating agencies. In addition to her own training/consulting business, Jan was the Director of New Business Ventures at HOPE Services for 3 years, an affiliate consultant with CompassPoint Nonprofit Services in the Bay Area for 6 years, a senior consultant with the National Center for Social Entrepreneurs for 5 years, and Chief Executive Officer of Project HIRED, a nonprofit employment service serving individuals with disabilities, for 10 years.

She taught classes in the Nonprofit Management Certificate program at San Jose State University and has been a national speaker and trainer at more than 200 meetings and conferences. She has written guest blogs and articles for Social Enterprise Reporter, Nonprofit World, and other publications.

Ms. Cohen is a member of the Bay Area Interim Executive Director Group and the Alliance for Nonprofit Management’s Executive Transition and Leadership Committee. She also currently serves on the Board of CalNonprofits Insurance Services, a subsidiary business of the California Association of Nonprofits.

Jan has degrees or certifications from the University of Massachusetts, University of Maryland, and the University of California at Santa Cruz.
